My Thoughts on SEO

For those that don’t know, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It is (supposedly) a methodology to use to make sure your blog is found by search engines like Google.

Here’s a secret: Unless you put up a robots.txt file to block them, Google will find your blog, period.

Knowing this, it seems to me like the best SEO strategy in the world is nothing more than a misbegotten strategy to game the system.

My advice? Don’t bother.

The best SEO is unique content.  Seriously.  I don’t use any grand SEO techniques whatsoever.  Go to Google and search for “vbscript wake on lan”.  Go ahead, I’ll wait.

As I write this, my post, “A VBScript ‘Wake on LAN’ Project,” is the second result you’ll see.

How much attention do I pay to SEO? None, zip, zero, ziltch, nada.

Unique content is the best way to be found, period.

If you want to be found among a sea of sheep, go ahead and let SEO rule your day.  If you want to be known for what you have to say, be unique.
