My One Rule for Twitter – No Ads

I follow lots of different kinds of people on Twitter – artists, musicians, geeks, and many others. ‘Interesting’ is a vague criterion, but one you must meet before I’ll follow you. Look at the people and organizations I currently follow if you want to know what I find interesting.

Once I follow you, there isn’t much that will make me unfollow you. The easiest way – present me with ads. I will not tolerate ads in my Twitterstream, ever. I don’t at all mind you linking to your own work in the hopes that your followers will buy something. In fact, I encourage such things. It helps build a sense of community, which is why I’m on Twitter in the first place. I have made purchases from several people I follow to support the work they’ve created – music, art, etc. I will not, however, tolerate ads for things like teeth whitening, male enhancement, etc. I’ll unfollow you in a heartbeat if you present me with such an ad.
